Welcome To Terry McEwan Hypnotherapy
THE HYPNOTIC APPROACH
In
therapy, using hypnosis, I utilize two approaches: suggestion and
analysis
SUGGESTION
With this
approach we are dealing with the presenting symptoms, often
substituting a Negative symptom
or thought with an alternative Positive symptom or
thought.
I feel sad, as if I’m losing something important when I give up smoking.
(The negatives in the above situation are, sadness, loss, giving up)
Change the above to:
I am proud of myself and feel free from the contamination, now that I have become a non-smoker.
(The positives are: proud, free, becomes a non-smoker)
I feel nervous at speaking in public
(The negative is: nervous.)
Change the above to:
I am excited at having this opportunity to share my knowledge and opinions with others, who will benefit as a result.
(The positives are: excited, opportunity, share, benefit.)
With this approach we acknowledge that something is causing the symptoms i.e., the negative thought but we are not addressing the cause of that thought.
Smoking causes illness and premature death, why would anyone mourn the secession of such a vile habit (I used to smoke 60+, cigarettes per day. I am allowed to call it a vile habit).
Speaking in public. Why should this cause a well prepared and motivated person to, at its most extreme, be physically sick or have to leave a job?
Suggestion is an extremely successful form of therapy
